Goodbye to an old friend
Back when I was 16 I did a triathlon after seeing a flier for it and thinking to myself...."hey, could be fun". On the way home from the race I stopped at a local shop and put a down payment on a Trek 1000 road bike...can you say hooked? The bike was nothing fancy but it was a big step up from the steel mtn bike I had at the time. I raced and rode that bike until I bought a tri bike for my first Ironman when I was 18. After that, the 1000 was relegated to winter roller duty and commuting until I revived and rebuilt it in the summer of '06 for a cross country touring trip with my bro. Then, last winter I stripped it down and repainted it, (a nice clean paint job means a fast bike right?) as well as, rebuilding it for mountain riding. At this point the only original parts were the frame and seatpost, but they did a fine job. I rode it all this season, and it did just what I needed it to do...
Anyway, the reason for the long story is that last week I found a big crack in the frame's headtube. (Sigh) No, it wasn't a sweet bike by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a workhorse and did what I wanted it to. So now, I'm in the market for a new frame/bike. I don't really have any plans of racing on the road, but sure I do like training on it. Maybe this is a good time to sell my tri bike? Afterall, the 53X39 gearing is only good if I go east of town and ride in the flats, and who likes to do that with everything that's west of town! Add another busted frame to my pile...

You should try warranting the frame. It's worth a shot?
I'm not sure an 8 yr old alum frame is even worth the hassle. Besides, now I have an excuse to finally get something better!
