Winter X and 50 degree weather

I headed to Aspen on Thursday night with Dave to check out the winter X games. We planned on getting there in time for the Ski superpipe finals on Thursday night, but the weather had other ideas. We first tried to head down though Leadville and head over to Aspen to take off some millage, but we got to within 35 miles of Aspen and discovered that the last pass was closed....dang, so we turned around and backtracked 80 miles to I 70 and headed to Glenwood. By this time it started to snow pretty heavily and my dune buggy / neon doesn't like that kind of weather so since we had already missed the ski finals we took shelter in a bar in Glenwood, called it a night and caught the results on TV. So after a good nights sleep in a Wall Mart parking lot we made it to Buttermilk mountain early on Friday. We watched practice most of the day and caught some good slopestyle and snowcross action at night. The rest of the games was pretty sweet to watch at moments and rather boring at others. Here's a few pictures to tell the story.

On the pipe

Ski big air finals - 65 ft step up = double back flips and kangaroo flips

Freestyle snowcross

Up on the slopestyle course - 80 foot gap

All told, it was a pretty good time. I wasn't overly impressed with the energy at the event or the turnout, but it was worth going once.

While we were chilling we ran into the guys from Sack Up Sports....check out the site!! It's a new approach to outdoor sports and networking....and I like what I see!! More on that later when I get the site figured out fully.

In other news, I took advantage of the 50 degree weather here today and headed up the reservoir. Man could I get used to riding here, nice smooth roads, wide shoulders and bike lanes all over town....besides the scenery is a bit better than the corn fields in Iowa!! Too bad the weather is taking a turn downhill.
